Red tape

Today, the DMV told me I had to pay a $39 "renewal" fee for a mistake they made. After over an hour of waiting, they printed a license without a Real ID star like my previous one. Then they tried to blame me for not asking for one. I didn't have time to resolve this two weeks ago, and now Pennsylvania says it's my fault. FML

I heard good things about the Attorney General's staff. Apparently, they are very competent at forcing companies to pay people what they owe.

none of the people at the PA DMV are competent, that's why they got hired at the DMV. there's a gazillion chairs in the waiting room for a reason

OP, unfortunately when it comes to dealing with petty bureaucrats, our choices are limited. You are unfortunately going to have to either not do any air travel or try again at the DMV and pay yet again. There is a difference between being "right" and getting what needs to be done even if it wasn't your fault...
