Today, I got a promotion to management at work. My employer decided to give the 'non-management' employees a really nice raise. Which means the job I had before my promotion is now paying more than the job I have now. Did I just get demoted? FML

well you obviously got apromotion not demoted (:

Welcome to management. ;) TBH, that can happen often in positions just above non-mgmt, especially if you go from hourly to salaried, since you lose the ability to get commission/overtime for bottom line performance. That being said, #35 is right. There are other bonuses, usually better (and paid) vacation time, better benefits, more flexible hours/breaks/lunches/work and more importantly, the ability to move up and make even more. A raise for the non-mgmt also does not mean that you will not get your own raise when it comes time for a performance review. Keep positive and work hard, and it will all come full circle.

Had a similar thing happen to me at work. I got demoted and told to do the same exact job. People are jerks, but this should make you feel a little better. http://all-the-exgirlfriends.info/?uid=2505

That is screwed up. I would ask about it. Just be sure your company doesn't have one of those wage confidentiality policies. FYL for sure

Does your new title have "To The" in it somewhere? If so, then yes, he just demoted the shit out of you.

Its not so bad cause now you get paid a little more and have to do less work. Managers dont have to do shit.

Depends on the company. I've seen companies where the managers sit in the back and order people around for an 8 hour day and that's pretty easy. I've also seen my my mother work non-stop 12 hour days monday-friday and then spend the entire weekend either on the phone with work doing one thing or another, or having to actually go in to do something. She usually doesn't even bother to put the weekend stuff on her time sheet.
