Really sucks OP. Valuable lesson to be learned here though, only tell one or two very close people until something is set in stone.

Just keep living the lie, and if you eventually get the promotion, tell them you made "senior assistant manager."

I'd just tell a spouse or significant other and not tell everybody until I got the job... YDI... and sorry to hear that.
