Love is Hell

Today, I’ve been single for so long that my mom’s friends ask her if I’m a lesbian, all because I’m 35 and not married yet. Truth is, my last relationship fucked me up so bad that the thought of falling in love with someone again makes me physically ill. FML

you can't live in fear all your life.

The first time I got drunk was on Jack Daniels (straight). I got so sick that I thought I was dying or that dying would be an improvement. For years the smell of whisky made me nauseous. Now it’s my preferred liquor if I drink… Bad experiences can happen to us all. It’s not unusual that the after effect is to avoid anything that looks or smells like that bad experience. It’s foolish not to learn from our experiences, but you need to figure out where things went wrong (in my case too much liquor, too quickly) and avoid that kind of mistake. You could give up on romance, sex, and a close relationship to protect yourself but that will eventually leave you lonely. There is risk in any relationship, but the point is to be wise and take things one step at a time. It might be smart to see a psychologist or counselor and talk about your concerns and fears. They might help you cope.

Nothing wrong with self-imposed solitude. If burned once, there is no shame in avoiding the fire.

They've got dirty minds. Why can't you just be a "spinster?"
