If he’s usually a homebody and introverted and chilled this is on you.
If he’s always been a party goer and socialiser, I can see the “F**K!” moment but he should’ve told you ahead of the date that he wanted something low key.

That's a pretty strange thing to say when headed out to dinner. Have you done this before? Have you ambushed him so many times that he has started to find it a reasonable possibility?
