Today, my mom asked me what I did with the first paycheck from my first "big girl" job. I told her I paid down my credit debt like a responsible adult. She rolled her eyes and said she was disappointed in me for not treating myself. She was serious. FML

Why do I feel like this is a smokescreen? I feel like if OP said she treated herself, her mom would have chewed her out. Another possibility is that OP's mom wants the money. Or wants to be treated, herself.

Continue being financially responsible. I've seen many FMLs of people getting gypped or coerced through their money. You're on the right track.
