Hangry

By Prodigy - This FML is from back in 2010 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I ran into a former college classmate at Subway. He gushed on and on about how I was the only one in our class with true potential. Then I asked him what kind of sandwich he wanted, because 3 years out of college, Subway is still the only place that will hire a music major. FML

Quit whining, all of us musicians know the risk we're taking when we try to make it a career.

Go back and get another degree- one with some form of job security. You should have known any art degree wouldn't get you anywhere especially in this economy.

I got my degree in music in 1985, and I've never been unemployed since--and no, I'm not talking about fast food joints or retail.

Just because you earn a degree, regardless of the field, that doesn't mean the jobs will come to you. Put yourself out there in the music industry. Also, get a better job.

well if your a music major, you could apply for school to be a director or a music theory teacher. or you can try out for philharmonic.  smart way to go is to actually TRY. apply all around the state.  how do I know? I'm gonna double major in music.

As a Classicist, I feel your pain. Knowing Latin and Greek =/= job prospects. But you can't just get a degree in something practical you'll hate, can you? Stick with it, OP, and you'll find a job eventually.

Yay, a fellow Classicist! :-) Annd I agree. No idea what I'm doing when I graduate in May. But I'm willing to accept it -- it was worth four amazing years of studying the subjects I truly love.

Translation: I majored in something fun instead of useful, because my parents paid and I took advantage of them. /bio major
