Garden party

Today, at a philanthropic event in some old money rich family's garden, I told my daughter she'd have to improve her table manners if she wanted to marry a nice man like that. I looked up and our host was standing right there, looking sternly in our direction. I smiled but he didn't smile back. FML

Why not empower your daughter to earn her own living so she can be a philanthrope herserlf?

yeah, it's a great idea to teach girls that they're only lovable when they behave in a certain way...

Maybe he thought you were trying to advertise your daughter simply to marry some rich guy, and not let either of them decide if they even want to be in a relationship at all. Let your daughter be who she is, bad table manners and all, and any future relationship will be built on something that is real, not some fabricated peronality used in order to get the rich mans' money.

That's when you break into a rap about gold diggers and broke n-words. That should break the ice and maybe score her a date with the rich prick.

It’s not a bad thing for you to want your daughter to have good table manners …but only for the right reasons …not to land a rich husband. Good table manners are important & should be valued.
