Empathy black hole

By shellbom - 17/11/2009 21:33 - United Kingdom

Today, I rang British Gas to cancel my boiler cover, as I'm totally and utterly skint. I told her the reason was I was getting divorced, moving house, losing my job, and had no income at all. She was very sympathetic, and said, "How would you like to pay your £37 cancellation fee?" FML

I'll translate for you, #2. Clearly you don't understand English. I'll try Ebonics. Today, I holla'd at my gas company to cancel my plan, cuz I'm broke as ****. I told her my baby momma was leavin' me, bouncing up outta my crib, I ain't gettin no mo' chedda from my job and I got nothin' in the bank. She was all sad for me and shit, and she said, "Yo, how you wanna pay yo damn cancellation fee?" FML.

There is more British jargon in this fml alone than I have heard in the last year

go away limey no one likes your kind

His screen name says myballs, yet I doubt he has any -_-. OP times are hard, but you'll pull through.

Dammmn that's annoying. I'm surprised how many people think that £=Euros... Especially since it's a British FML, kinda obvious it'd be pounds, no? Ah well.

Lol, i believe that the YANKS beat ur ass in a war (and dont tell me it was the french, i know it was), held our own in another, and saved you ass in a third....

And now we're so fat people say "let's go fight a war!" and we say, "damn, we have to send in the national guard, I guess we're ****** if there's, you know, A GIANT HURRICANE OR SOME SHIT"

Good God, y'all have a completely different language over there.

192 - don't bring the bloody language into this situation. we created the language, thus the reason why it's called English. therefore... you speak a different language, wanker

lmfao! i LOVE xCrackerx's/#44's humor!!! hilarious!!! i seriously HATE it when people talk like that!!!!! so #44 translating like that the way they meant to seriously made my night. haha :]

#2 here @#44. it's not that i didn't understand what was being said, or that i didn't even understand the words being used. it's just that, living in canada, one doesn't hear words such as skint that often, or a gas company being referred to as a boiler company. sorry to disappoint you but i'm not from some inner city hood, clearly i speak english, as i typed in it. i do know what those words mean, even if i don't hear them everyday and that was my point

Guys, isn't obvious he was joking? xD

82, he never said it was black people. I know white people who do talk like that.

ooooooooooooh 4

155 British/English = same thing

some people take the #44 comment way to seriously, seein as the person we are replying to took the piss out of British people perhaps he should take the piss out of them... lalalalala now I shall return to my cheese selling on the street.. if u see me on wall st. at around 2pm, holla. lol

british and English aren't the same thing, there are 4 countries in britain and England is only one of them.

riceicle1 6

Well to be exact, there are 3 countries in Britain actually and that's the mainland (England, Scotland and Wales). There are 4 in the UK as that's mainland + Northern Ireland :)

I hope I'm not the only one who barely understood this ;_;

swooshq 0

ME TOO. Because...well, yeah it was hard to understand with this british jibberjabber

the only british slang in here was skint really, i mean you can barely count "rang" as jargon, whats so hard to understand about this jeesh stop making us americans look stupid >.<

Also... Car's boiler cover? Who puts gas in a car??? Oh.. wait... you do!

@33 - "Boiler cover" is a term I have never heard when talking about gas heating. That's honestly the point where I got lost. I was able to piece together that it was some sort of utility or service, and I figured that they had an appointment to have *something* done and was getting charged for canceling the appointment (since it states that they called British Gas, I assumed they were having their tank filled).

lol wow that sux. And for all you canadians/americans, "Skint" basically means "Broke". And as for British gas, they are the main electricity/ house heating company here i n the uk.

omg :/ im sorry but american "english" is so full of slang you're all being pretty hypocritical, our version isnt the weird one!!! @121 boiler cover is insurance for your boiler.

ok obviously the english language has variations in slang in different countries. just like with Spanish.

skint = no money and YDI OP for not reading ur contract terms properly

You deserve thumbs down because you look to young to possibly understand that bills don't always point out a cancellation fee, or that sometimes people struggle in the economy.

justmyluck1212 0

I'm assuming by "boiler cover" you were trying to disguise a massive boil growing on your face?

Wow. There's like ONE word people might not understand. "skint" means broke. As for "boiler" and "moving house" and "rang", you SHOULD be able to understand that. o.O

This would be more humorous if I knew how many dollars 37 euros came out to, and what a boiler cover was.

a good way to guess is double the price, it is less than that but pretty close, i would guess about $60

Who said anything about Euros? The Brits use pounds.

You must have a strange sense of humour as £=/=Euros.

nobody said anything about euros except you... the exact amount is $62 so he was actually pretty damn close yeah he knows thats not the euro symbol he just thought that the person above him was converting from euros for some reason...

Gosh you're stupid. £ is for GBP, pounds. € is a euro sign. Try reading a newspaper!

Are you guys serious? I'm from New Zealand, so I guess I would understand it a bit better than Americans, but the only word I can find in it that might be hard to understand is 'skint', and its not hard to figure out.

wow, people, is it REALLY that hard to figure out what "skint" means? I figured it out in about .5 seconds based on the context...

FMLinCA 12

um... so what happened in this fml moment?
