Doggy heaven

Today, I attempted to fix a leaky tap in my bathroom. Instead, I somehow managed to trigger a water feature reminiscent of one of those Disney park rides, turning my bathroom into a splash zone for my two dogs while I frantically tried to shut it all off. FML

Plumbed out

Today, I tried to fix a leaking pipe under the sink. I watched a YouTube tutorial and was feeling confident that I could get the job done. Two hours later, half of the kitchen was practically flooded because I forgot to cut the water off, and scrambled to actually find the main valve, then I had to call an emergency plumber, who showed up, laughed, and fixed it in five minutes. FML’s like this remind me how fortunate I was to have a father and a grandfather who taught me how to fix and make things… OP, you cannot change the past, but you can change the future. If you want to learn to repair stuff or make things, I suggest getting a book about common home repairs. While U-Tube is useful it doesn’t generally explain the important details… In plumbing always turn off the water to the tap or whatever you’re working on and make sure it’s really off by turning on the tap. Then you can do your repair. And then turn back on the water listening for a big rush of water in case something is seriously wrong… Finally while I think most people have the capacity to learn to do common repairs, not everyone has that aptitude. My wife’s father was an accountant, he was good with money and figuring taxes, but terrible at home repair. My wife was actually more mechanical minded than her father. People are just different…
