Demanding

Today, my lazy, spoiled brat of a daughter screwed up her third job interview in the past month. She keeps self-sabotaging by asking the employers about the pay and benefits, and if she doesn’t like it, she walks out on them. Then she rants on how nobody wants to hire her. Gee, I wonder why? FML

You want to know why nobody wants to hire her? Because of your generation of colossal morons. You guys will post offers for "entry level positions" that require a master's degree, 5 years of work experience, managerial skills, and pay barely above minimum wage. Basically, you're trying to hire people who are vastly more competent than you'll ever be, get them to do your sh*tty job, and pay them a quarter of what you make, with little benefits. While they have to pay a grand a month in rent. So, yeah, your generation runs the interviews and they're a cavalcade of f*ck ups, that's why they don't want to hire her.

You should be asking why potential employers aren't transparent about pay and benefits in their job description in the first place. She wants a living wage and not be bankrupted by going to the doctor in the future. She's refusing to be taken advantage of from being underpaid and working under bullshit conditions. And you call it "self-sabatoge?" More like self-preservation. You need to catch up with current times. YDI.

If she has never held a job I get your point but employers consistently low ball people when they come to a company if that is the case she has a point

Have you told her she can't talk about these things during the initial interview? Maybe she's purposely tanking these interviews, but maybe she's stupid.

Have her watch Andy Lacavita’s tips for job interviews, he’s the only worthwhile one out there—-I just landed a 90K managerial position after lots of research and listening to his advice and practicing putting it to use, and I’m only 27 and still in grad school. There are actual tips and methods that people need to understand for interviews, but also you can’t be outwardly picky and obnoxious about pay and benefits in the actual interview setting ( and you certainly can’t ******* walk out like that). She’s gotta learn general, and business, manners.

You do understand the entire point of capitalism is to sell your labor to the HIGHEST bidder, right? Not the lowballer?

Maybe employers should make the jobs more enticing then.

Are you supporting her? Maybe that's why.

you should be proud of your daughter for standing up for herself and having self worth. you are a bad dad that you don't.

Does she live in your home rent free, all bills paid, druve a car you pay for, have insurance you pay for, eat food you pay for? If so, why on earth would she get a job? Give her a timeline, "You start paying rent/living expenses of $X a month starting in 4 months. No job by then, you have to move out." Problem solved. But you have to make it clear you're serious. Children are spoiled brats because their parents raised them to be spolied brats. You did it, you have to fix it.
