I mean....that's actually a pretty fair thing of her to do. She wants to know what you mean by "like", so she can understand how to appropriately answer.

You shouldve just told her and dealt with the consequences afterwords. Even if it didn't work out atleast you know she doesn't feel the same and that tension won't be there.

That’s on you, be direct, don’t beat around the bush. If you like really liked this person, you shouldn’t be afraid to say so. On the other hand, if they’re truly your friend, and not befriended just because you have crush, then you should be perfectly ok with any answer given.
