Today, I was talking to my friend, who was telling me he's having suicidal thoughts lately. He then said he'd be back in a few minutes. Nearly an hour passed. I panicked, thinking he'd offed himself. Several minutes after I called the emergency services, he messaged me, saying "K, back." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Classic been there, done that
Today, in a state of severe depression and fearing I might do the worst, I called my local suicide helpline. I was put on hold. FML
Support system
Today, I tried to tell my dad that I was really struggling with my mental health and didn't think I could stay alive much longer. He laughed. This comes after telling my "best friend" last week and having to wait three days for a reply. FML
News to me
Today, I was texting my friend. He has a history of depression, which we were talking about, and somehow, he turned the conversation to, "If we ever broke up, I would kill myself." I didn't even know we were even going out. FML
Not helping
Today, I was talking to my professor and explained how depressed and stressed out I am. He called the police to my house because he thought that would help with my suicidal thoughts. My parents don't believe in mental health, and I want to die more. FML
Don't do it
Today, I finally caved and told a friend about my suicide note. She demanded that I promise I wouldn't follow through, but how could I when I was writing it no more than a few minutes before I joined a call with her? The funny thing is, most of that note was me trying to comfort my friends and family for when I'm gone. FML
Don't know, don't care
Today, I realised that if I died, no one would care. I know this because when I called my partner distressed last night, he told me he needed to sleep and hung up in less than 45 seconds, and a friend told me to call lifeline. I haven’t heard from either of them since. FML
Liability
Today, my friend broke ties with me after I came out of the hospital from attempted suicide. She was the one who called the police for me to go in there in the first place. FML
Today, I called a suicide prevention hotline. No one picked up. FML
Today, my friend's dad had a heart attack. Without realizing what I was saying, I texted her, "If you need anything, you know I'll be there in a heartbeat." FML
Panic!
Today, my grandfather showed up at my house in a panic. He rushed over, with a gun, because I wasn't answering his texts and he thought something had happened to me. I was asleep. FML

Good friend. And they have help for people having suicidal thoughts, you probably helped him out quite a bit anyways.

I second that.

Imagine the reverse end, if the friend DID commit suicide and created a breadcrumb trail for it, yet you did nothing about it, just consider that for a second.

The only thing is OP should have told someone before it got to this point. Though it may seem you're breaching their trust, if someone confides to you that they've been having suicidal thoughts then you should notify someone who can help. It's the result of mental illness that may only get worse and therefore needs to be treated.

OP just found out it sounds like. Either way informing authorities might make the friend mad but at least he will get offered the help he needs.

That friend will never tell OP anything in confidence again. He might not even reach out to anyone ever. This wasn't a smart move.

Damn it I accidentally bumped YDI on my phone. I really wish you could undo your vote.. Sorry OP, that sucks but at least your friend was alright.

I know how you feel

FML devs please let us undo votes, or at least put the buttons side-by-side and not one on top of the other so it's harder to miss! Also try and make it so that the accounts that always put YDI can't vote

Definitely an FML- but it could have been a much worse one. Be thankful.

That was the right thing to do. Everyone involved, emergency services included, will understand.

I always understand. We like it better than the alternative.
