Today, I found out that the built in lighter in my car does NOT in fact glow red when hot. I now have circles burned into my finger. FML

Today, I was refilling my lighter. Afterwards, I gave it a test light. I must've spilled some fluid because my thumb caught on fire. FML
Today, I learned the hard way that my oven mitt has a hole. Time to get a new one, whenever my finger stops burning. FML
Today, while sitting at a red light with my window down, the asshat next to me flicked his still-lit cigarette away. It landed in my car and wedged between me and my seat. It burned a hole in my shirt and my seat, and burned my back and hair. FML
Today, I used a fire extinguisher for the first time. Too bad it was on my car. FML
Today, my classic car that I've put hours of wrench time into burst into flames when I tried to start it. FML
Today, I discovered a nail in the tire of my car and a nice sized crack on the screen of my phone. I didn't think the day could get worse, until on my way to fix my tire, the cherry of my cigarette fell off and burned a huge hole in my driver's seat. This was my day off. FML
Today, after parking my car, I was informed by an incredibly hot girl that my tail light was faulty. I tried hitting it to make it work again. Guess who has 5 stitches and a smashed tail light? FML
Today, I got punched in the face after a stranger asked for a light, didn't realize it was a butane lighter and burnt the tip of his nose lighting his cigarette. Now my nose looks worse than his. FML
Today, I decided to light a candle in my room. Since fire intrigues me, I put an old brochure into it. Paper burns fast, and now my carpet has a big, black burn mark. FML
Today, I burned my butt on the heater when I tried to warm up after my shower. FML

Car lighters have a series of circles in the middle or at least mine does. I think that's where the multiple circles come from.

its black hot the first time, push it again, it becomes Red. At least mine does, its still pretty hot both ways. As I touched it for a fraction of a second when it was black, it just turned my very top skin layer very dry and it peeled off with ease. when I did it?? Never burned myself to where I felt pain..you guys..you guys must gave held it there too long or put too much pressure onto it. Anyways, once I realized it was not red hot like in the movies, I pushed it again. When it popped back up it was Red, Smoking, Seemed Rather scary. I would not touch it Then..a warning to all of you who got burned and would think, well I wonder how hot is out now??

My thing is, chances are if OP was actually using one of the car lighters, they wanted a cigarette. Why not test it using the cigarette instead of their finger?

After doing it for years and having the colour as an indication, when it's black it could be malfunctioning. You feel slight heat but it's not that hot, and you're not really going to place close enough to feel a lot of heat when you're driving.

I've done that. My friend had apparently heated it up and set it down after lighting her cigarette (we were at the park and she forgot her lighter). I picked it up to put it back and burnt my finger.
