Today, I ran for editor-in-chief of a magazine. I spent hours working on my speech, and offered a bunch of new ideas to increase readership. My opponent just said that she, "loved the organization". I lost by a 4-1 margin. My opponent later announced her plans for next year. They were all of my ideas. FML

Today, I had to give a speech as part of my campaign for school captain. I was rather happy with it and so I told another candidate my speech. Apparently it was a good idea as minutes later that same candidate stole my entire speech, leaving me looking like a complete idiot. FML
Today, after submitting a 500-word essay to a writing contest, I found out that I lost to someone who wrote 3 sentences. FML
Today, it was the elections for Student Council President. I decided to be nice and vote for the only other competitor because it was her birthday. I lost by one vote. FML
Today, I was having an in depth discussion with my girlfriend's father about how corrupt journalists are and how our town's paper is the worst paper on the planet. After insulting basically everything about the newspaper, I asked him what he did for a living. He's the editor of the newspaper. FML
Today, my boss asked for recommendations on how to improve the office. I sent her an e-mail full of my ideas. Later, my boss sent me a reply, saying, "Here's what head office thinks of your ideas." It contained a list of insults upper management made about me. FML
Today, I gave my boss a report I wrote on my own time, full of suggestions on how to increase productivity and profits at our company. He said my ideas made "about as much sense as pistol-whipping a ghost" and that I was impressing no one. FML
Today, we had a meeting at my job and we had to introduce new ideas to our boss. Earlier, I was talking to one of my close friends who also attended the meeting about my idea. As we start the meeting, she decides to steal my idea and take complete credit for it. My boss loves "her" idea. FML
Today, while waiting for an interview at the career that I've been spending months tailoring my résumé for, I was thrown up on by my only competitor. Guess who got the job. FML
Today, after interviewing for a promotion to a position that was created with me in mind, I eagerly accepted a call from my boss, expecting good news. Turns out, they found a better applicant, who they don't believe will need support from the position I currently hold, so it's being eliminated. FML
Today, due to nepotism, I lost to a competitor. They rarely contributed to the competition and were literally distracted all the way through. Their quality was pretty low as well, but they were friends with the judge. FML

Great OP, you worked on your speech a lot and came up with some good ideas, that doesn't mean you deserve anything more than a "Good ideas, we'll use them. Also nice speech". Sorry but you're not going to be the one on FML saying "oh yeah, and I have this character flaw/lack of experience that makes me totally not ready for the position" and its perfectly possible. Even if it is a case of you being better qualified and some BS is going on at your workplace, get a job somewhere better. If you're so confident in your abilites, apply for similar positions at organizations that you don't hate.

I agree with 5 and 30. My first thought was "she probably had big boobs" or something. I mean, obviously OP could have a "sour grapes" mentality distorting his view on the situation, but we can't ignore the fact that more attractive people often go farther in this society. We see it everywhere from political candidates to office politics. And of course there's the whole "maybe OP is just a jerk no one liked so we won't vote for him no matter what" possibility. At the end of the day, we'll never know the truth (unless OP actually comes in and offers more details)...but yeah my first thought was that she was hot and most of the people making the decision were men.
