But wealth, then as now, could buy beauty and elegance at the big house, and I assume that’s what your friend was responding to. It’s a shame that your friend did not think of the big picture. I see both sides here. I don't blame you for not wanting to set foot on a plantation, but at the same time this isn't about you - it's about your friend. It's her day, and if she wants to have a wedding on a plantation, that's up to her. Plantations don't have the best history, but it's not like you yourself were affected...
