Today, I told my mom I was leaving early to give my boyfriend a ride to work. She asked me why on Earth I’m even attracted to someone who doesn’t have a car. FML

In case it’s not obvious to everyone, I am betting OP lives in the USA. In nearly all parts of the USA it’s pretty essential that you have a car unless you live in a very urban neighborhood. In all but the most centralized cities, pubic transit is not that good. Most people past high school or college with a full time job have a car, even if it’s a cheap used one - It’s one of the first things you get once you have a full time job. This is likely why OP’s mom said what she did. No car implies not a very good job in most of the USA. And poor job implies Daughter will be supporting boyfriend and ultimately mom might have to support both, so she has a motivation...

Age is a pretty big factor here....I mean if he's young it's one thing, but if he's 40+ and doesn't have a car, and it's not because he's going green or something, then it's pretty pathetic.

She's right. A man without a car is pretty useless. He should refrain from dating until he's saved up enough to get a car. And then he should only date girls that accept his vehicle.

Listen to your momma. I would leave him at the bus stop.
