Unmatch
Today, after recently discovering that I need a bone marrow transplant, my girlfriend got tested to see if she could be a donor. When the results came back with a negative match, she blurted out, "Oh thank god." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my girlfriend called and said she had great news. Turns out I've cured her of that illness she gets every month. FML
Today, my doctor informed me that the tests we've been doing the previous months show no sign of leukemia. I was just about to express my relief when he casually followed up with, "Never mind, there's still a lot of other blood-related diseases we need to look out for." FML
Today, my girlfriend tells me she missed her period this month. I felt excited until she said, "I will let you know the results of the paternity test." I was not aware we needed a paternity test. FML
Today, I was hanging with my mates when we found an old pregnancy test. Since I’m a guy, we thought it’d be hilarious if I took it. It came out positive, so we were roaring with laughter. That is, until someone looked up why. Turns out, I might have cancer. FML
Today, my boss told me his cancer test results came back positive. I congratulated him and asked how he planned to celebrate. It turns out a positive cancer test result is a bad thing. FML
Today, I donated blood and the nurse said: "God blesses good deeds", when I get home, my mom tells me that we have to sell the house because we're broke. FML
Today, I had to explain to my boyfriend why period blood couldn't be saved and donated to the hospital for transplants. FML
Today, I found out via a Twitter post that my girlfriend is pregnant. FML
Today, I visited my ex-girlfriend's house. I saw her mother and asked, "Hi! Have you recovered from that nasty cold that you had for so long?" She said, "I don't have a cold," to which I smiled and said, "That's great to hear!" Turns out she has lung cancer instead. FML
Today, my buddy told me he was going to get an HIV test at the health department. Without thinking, I told him to "think positive". FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

She still got tested. I think she would have gone through with it if she was indeed a match, but anyone (including myself) would be dreading the surgery.

It was a nice gesture that she tested to see if she could, but that wasn't really a proper response, even if she was afraid to go through with the procedure. Good luck finding a doner OP!

That really sucks man, I hope the list isn't very long! I can see where she's coming from too, her replay seems as if she would do it if she was a match, but was relived that she didn't have such an obligation, as ****** up as it is.

She clearly cares about you as she went through the tests to see if she was a match but I understand her relief because that would have been a painful procedure. I think she would have done it had she been a positive match. I don't think you should take her relief as sign of not caring for your plight.

It sounds like she would have done whatever she needed to do to help you. Being a marrow donor is a horrifically painful and invasive experience, she _should_ be relieved she isn't a match and doesn't have to go through that. That doesn't mean she isn't also upset she can't help you. People have conflicting desires sometimes.

It is not painful or invasive!!! More often than not you're asked to give a PBSC(peripheral blood stem cell) donation where they take blood from one arm and put it back in the other. It takes a few hours but oh well! Even if they take actual marrow, you're in and out in the same day usually. Damn, educate yourself before opening your mouth!!

So you're saying the people who went through this procedure are lying about the pain they experienced? I believe that the stem cell donation thing doesn't always work, in which case they'd have to do it the old fashion way, which is more painful.

And you obtained your Medical or Nursing degree where? Beyond that, you're saying that people who have had firsthand knowledge of the procedure are obviously mistaken in their recollection of it? Troll.

Having signed up on the bone marrow registry myself, what #58 said is basically everything that the pamphlet tells you.

OP I'm sure that if she was a match she wouldve gone through with it. she took the test for a reason. its a scary procedure and a sense of relief just took over. you can't blame her. she shouldve just been more sensitve about it. good luck to you op

Well, she was obviously trying to be supportive by getting the test and probably got overwhelmed part of the way through. I'm sorry you need the transplant, OP. Hopefully this minor incident doesn't drive her out of your life, it's important to have people who love and care for you when you're going through something like this.

Don't take it personally man, nobody likes surgery. Good luck with what I'm guessing is cancer and hopefully you find a donor.

She marrowly avoided a very painful and serious operation, she's allowed some relief. At least she got tested OP, whether she was a match or not the fact that she did means she really cares.

She was probably just really nervous

That's really rude of her. She should be ashamed. (It is painful though..) I'd gladly do the same for my boyfriend if not more :/. I bet you'd do the same for her too. Good luck with finding a match!
