Today, my parents finally fulfilled my wish of a pet that I could take care of for a few years. They got a parrot. I guess 75 years or more is a few years to my parents. FML

Today, around 12 a.m., my pet parrot said a sentence I've never heard him say before. Usually this would be exciting, but considering he said, 'I killed the bird', and that one of my two love birds mysteriously died a few days ago, it's safe to say I'm now terrified. FML

Today, I bought a parakeet for my kids. When I got home and presented it to them, they wanted to let him fly around inside. We went around the house making sure all the windows and doors were shut. Unfortunately I forgot to turn off the ceiling fan. FML

Today, I was caring for a bird that had flown into my window. I thought the poor thing wouldn't make it, when it shit in my hand, flew into my neck, then around my living room for ages before I could manage to get it out of the window. FML

Today, I met my boyfriend's parents for the first time. In his front room was a giant parrot. Hoping to impress them, I went over to the bird and began talking to it proving I wasn't scared. Out of nowhere, it's beak clenched onto my nose making it gush blood on the carpet. I was hospitalized. FML

Today, I found out my ten year-old brother and his best friend have taught our new parrot to say, "Shut up, bitch." We have a bunch of our extended family coming over tomorrow to see what the parrot can say. FML

Parrots live a very long time. Even a dog or a cat would live for only 15-20 years. That's a fraction of a parrot or turtle's life span. A lot of people would be unsure about getting a pet that lives that long. They also could have wanted a hamster, guinea pig or the like. Relatively low maintenance and they don't live very long. If they've never had a pet, a parrot would be pretty overwhelming. They live a long time and can be hard to take care of, especially as a first pet.

I guess you'll learn more about responsibility, and being clearer with your wording. Be grateful they got you a pet. Parrots are amazing if you raise them right, and gorgeous. Enjoy your time together.
