Today, my mother-in-law called me every 2 hours, starting at 8pm and stopping at 10am the following morning. She says that since my wife and I are expecting our first child, I should "get used to waking up at all hours." She calls my work phone, which I'm not allowed to switch off. FML

Hey, OP here. I would have mentioned in the FML that my work phone is one of those "dumb phones" and does not have any option to block numbers. After she did that for two nights in a row, I wound up setting one of the fax machine at my office to auto-dial her mobile and house phones every 15 minutes. Now, the only thing that wakes me up is the occasional user who forgot their login info, and my wife's odd food cravings.

I think it's time to have a serious talk with your wife about her mom. If that doesn't work out you'll have to go straight to the source. Sleep is sacred!!!

Set her ringtone to a silent sound clip or set it to not ring. Then punch her in the face for being a moron.

block her number. And get some sleep before you'll know what it's really like to have none.

I like all the suggestions. Sucks you have a clunker of a phone and can't block her. The auto-fax is AWESOME. What's worse than picking up a phone to a fax sound haha! I would go a step further and call her randomly (during the day, at night) to ask the stupidest more random questions you can think of, and tell her that since you are getting ready to have a new family member, that the child is going to be asking her lots of questions, and she needs to get ready. :) Best of luck with the little one!!

Simplest solution was to not have kids, but that train has sailed.

Mixing metaphors there... or do trains usually sail where you're from? :)

Must be Peter Griffin! "Trains on the water! Boats on the track!" This is in reference to the singing episode with Peter and Quagmire if anyone is unsure.
