My wife has a similar problem with her mother. I always say "you can choose your friends but you can't choose who you're related to". Disown them and stick with your friends.

Actually, "favorite" kids tend to suffer from emotional dependence and achieve far less than their non-favorite siblings. That's probably why your brother sells drugs; your mother has lower expectations for him. You, on the other hand, know you can't depend on her emotionally, so you end up a little tougher and independent for it.
