You're both in the wrong. You shouldn't talk to your mother like that in front of your entire family, and she shouldn't be so cruel as to say something like that at all. If you two have a problem, talk it out in private like adults. If she still belittles you, then distance yourself from her, because its not worth letting her crawl under your skin and kill your self esteem.

Her mom was put in a position where she was confronted and embarrassed in front of their whole family, which was wrong, so how do you expect her to react. They both deserved what was said and nobody should use being a teenager as an excuse for behavioral issues, that's ridiculous.
