Today, I yelled at a new employee for violating the company's makeup policy which is minimum coverage. She had red lipstick, very dark drawn eyebrows, and foundation that made her look like a ghost. She took out a makeup wipe and used it then showed me it, only to reveal she doesn't wear any. FML

I'm sorry op but ydi. Always ask before you assume. Assumptions often lead to bad results.

She cleverly proved you wrong on the spot. Nice. Yelling definitely wasn't necessary. Also, "minimum coverage" is subjective...I mean, what is that really? It sucks that women can get reprimanded for things like makeup and hair style in the workplace.

Honestly this isn't that bad, I've worked at a skin care counter so they wanted us to look fresh faced. I'd much rather then tell me to not wear much makeup than require it, less effort for me

But no one achieves the "fresh faced" look without make up (and skills to go along with it). And there are people like me who have troublesome skin and who look tired and more unprofessional without makeup than with it. Either way this is a dilemma only women face.

To be fair, OP probably would have also yelled at a man who looked like he was wearing bright red lipstick, dark eyebrow pencil, and white foundation.

Aye but generally those men wait until the weekend :)

You ****** up the second you raised your voice...conflict management brah.

Well, it was definitely a dick move to yell at her over something like that instead of talking to her like an actual human being, but on the bright side she's actually Snow White.

There was no need to yell at her, that was an asshole move and very immature, maybe you could of commented on her dark red lips and drawn on eyebrows My sister had this look but hers was tattooed on I Have naturally long and thick eyelashes, like Im wearing ,mascara 24/7, dont be quick to judge

I agree with #9 that it was probably permanent makeup. It's just a little suspicious that she just happened to carry a makeup wipe if she doesn't even wear makeup, so it sounds like she was expecting this. Still, YDI. This could have all been settled positively if you had just handled it more professionally.

I carry them to freshen up makeup wipes can mean anything from baby wipes to actual branded makeup wipe

Suspicious? Weird word to use. It's not like she's plotting to murder someone with them.

I carry baby wipes with me because dry paper doesn't leave me feeling clean down below, if you know what I mean. If you do, please tell me. Because I don't. :(

She probably carries them because of how many people assumed she was wearing makeup. Whatever the reason, I don't think carrying around makeup wipes is suspicious. Girls carry makeup wipes with them all the time.

Comment moderated for rule-breaking.

Show it anyway

I always carry wipes on me.. op didn't say if they were make up or baby wipes. they are handy If I've any spills or marks on my clothes or even to wipe my hands and freshen up. don't assume just because she carried them she was expecting this

There is a such thing as permanent makeup too! She could have had that done.

Company policy or not, how is a little makeup worth your time to actually yell at someone about it? YDI for complaining about something so insignificant.

As someone who has been bullied by horrible bosses, YDI OP. You don't need to yell at your employees, politely asking if she was wearing makeup would have been fine.

If she doesn't wear makeup, why did she have makeup wipes? hummm

I don't wear makeup, but I carry wipes because my face gets oily. Unlike baby wipes, makeup wipes are cleansing and toning, they're specifically designed for your sensitive face, and they come in small enough packages to carry in your purse.
