Today, I was walking in the shoes I'm going to wear for a wedding and fell, spraining my ankle. I'm the Matron of Honor and I can barely walk. The wedding is in three days. FML

MDoremis tells us more.

Thanks for all the well wishes and advice! I got some X-rays done and thankfully nothing was fractured or broken (and the screws from a previous break did not get wrenched loose in the fall)! I've been lucky enough to be assigned to completing the tasks, favors and whatnot, where I can prop my foot up and keep ice on it. I've also purchased a nice pair of flats, because there is no way I'm falling and breaking myself day of the wedding. As for a response from the bride, she pretty much told me it took a lot longer to fall than she thought it would (I'm super, super clumsy), and to keep off my feet so I can still be in the wedding without hurting myself again.

Sprained mine playing volleyball a few weeks ago and so did a friend. Keep it up, elevated and ice it 20 minutes off and on for the two days before while taking ibuprofen every 6 hours to help too. If you got it checked out and they gave you an aircast, try and walk on it with that near the end of the second day and see if you can. The swelling should have gone down a lot by then and might be fine to walk on. Good luck op.

You have a very calm and controlled bride, glad nothings broke, enjoy the wedding and congrats to said nice bride and her groom/groomess

I sprained my ankle fairly bad and I have a musical (Pippin) in 2 weeks at that time, 9 days now. Before I was given a boot I took a day off from school and rehearsal to rest the ankle. Taking allot of naps throughout the day, elevating, and icing it ~6 times let me be able to walk the day after the sprain pretty good. Also (this is my own belief) I wouldnt take anything to keep the swelling down other than ice because all the blood circulating and getting to the injured ankle I think helps with the healing process faster. I wish for the best and sorry if what I typed doesnt make sense. I suck at putting thoughts in writing.

Only when you -have- to be on it. Keeping the bloodflow to the injury helps the healing.

Ankle brace and vicodin :P Ok maybe half a vicodin an hour or so before the ceremony. And as others above have stated, in the time being ice it on and off and keep it elevated whenever possible.

Try getting a splint. Hope you feel better!

69, True, but she's not going to be drinking alcohol during the entirety of her recuperation.

I'm glad you can still make it. Not to be bitchy or anything but fractured and broken are the same thing.

Well, sort of. "Broken" means all the way through, fractured can mean just a crack.

Better now than at the wedding! Good luck OP! Get better soon!!! :)

why do women force themselves to wear shoes they cant walk in? this is a "girl" thing I've never understood.

So they can learn to walk in them? I dunno. I wear 3 inches of heel all the time, but they're in boots and the heel is just as wide as the rest of the shoe. No balance issues.

Sprained ankles don't hurt after 2 or so days, at least mine didn't...

I have an ankle I sprained badly at 13. I'm 25. It still hurts if I turn it a bit or if the weather is wrong. (Pressure changes or such). It depends on the sprain, if you could stay off it until it healed (not an option, school came first) and on the person.
