Today, I was supposed to talk to my girlfriend's mom to ask permission to date her daughter but I chickened out. We've been together for almost a year, but have not been on a real date because I am too damn scared of her family. FML

Today, I proposed to my girlfriend. She said she wanted to accept, but that she'd basically have to get her mom's permission first. Apparently the answer was no. The worst thing is that she really is this unhealthily dependent on her mom, and probably wasn't lying about needing her permission. FML
Today, I finally got up the nerve to ask out my crush, only to find out that they're already in a committed relationship with my mom. FML
Today, I met my girlfriend's father for the first time; he asked me to explain my interest in dating her. In a mix of me trying to say "I want to be with your daughter" and "I want to be in your daughter's life" I got confused and said, "I want to be in your daughter." FML
Today, our daughter has actually been dating a decent guy, compared to the usual losers, and was going to meet his parents. My wife put her foot in it by repeating over and over again how important meeting the parents is. She psyched her out so bad, she cancelled meeting his parents and dumped him. FML
Today, my girlfriend of 2 years broke up with me because I hadn't popped the question to her yet. For the last six months, I have been respectfully trying to convince her over protective father to give me his blessing. FML
Today, I talked to my mom about hanging out with her. She got out her phone to schedule an appointment. FML
Today, I finally mustered up the guts to ask this girl I like to dinner and a movie. She agreed on the terms that she could bring someone, and I'd said it wouldn't be a problem. When I met up with her a few hours later, I found out she'd brought her boyfriend. FML
Today, I met my girlfriend’s parents for the first time. I wanted to break the ice, so I brought up a funny story… about my ex-girlfriend, without thinking. The room fell silent, and my girlfriend’s mom just stared at me. My girlfriend left the room in tears. FML
Today, I asked a girl what time she'd like me to pick her up for our date tonight. She didn't know what I was talking about. It seems like, after months of sweaty palms, nervous smiles, and awkward sentences, I only dreamed she said yes to going out. FML
Today, I invited my girlfriend over to a family lunch, planning to propose to her at just the right moment. My family was in on it, including my apparently disapproving mom, who kept causing a scene to grab my girlfriend's attention every time I went to pull out the ring. FML

story of my life!! f-HERlife, not yours..sort of. my dads this super strict scary dude to every person ive ever met. and this guy that im talking with is terrified of him. its been 6months of secret phone calls. he wont even talk to me if my dads in the same building. its crazy. he'll wave from a distance. iguess my dad doesnt make it any better, he mean mugs hekka tough!! grow a pair..i wish he would. fml :(

View this as a red flag, and move on. If you need to ask the girl’s mom for permission just to date, what is the next step, I mean will you have to ask her mom’s permission for other things too?? As a basic rule, always look at the mother, because there is a good chance the daughter will end up similarly. Ohh, they deny it, but it does happen, the longer you go on, the more they morph into their mother. So, don’t ask the mom, tap the daughter, and move on.

What century do you/her family live in? Either FYL for her parents living in the 1600's, or YDI for not having the balls to say, "Hey, I'm dating your daughter. Deal with it." Guess it depends on how scary her parents actually are.
