Today, I was at a party and saw an old friend from college. I went up to her asking how she was and how her family was. She went on to tell me that her husband left her a month ago and started crying. I told her that he was an ass anyway and that she didn't need him. Turns out he died. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was having coffee with an old friend I hadn't seen since university. I asked about her husband; she replied, "He died" and walked off. I was confused, so I stood up and took off after her. She then reminded me that I was at his funeral, and then slapped me in the face. FML
Today, I was speaking to an old friend and I asked her how her mother was. She replied, "She passed away, you came to her funeral last month." FML
Sharing is caring
Today, I ran into an old friend of mine at the store. All was going fine, until she showed me her new fiancé. My now ex-boyfriend. FML
Good
Today, at work, I asked a lady how she was doing. When she replied, I didn't understand her, and instead of asking her what she'd said, I just replied with, "Oh, that's good." What she'd said that I didn't understand was that her husband had just died. FML
Last to know
Today, I finally found out what happened to my ex-girlfriend from my high school days, since a few years ago she suddenly stopped using social media and never returned my texts or calls to see how she was doing. Turns out she died, and no one bothered to inform me. FML
I loved that little guy!
Today, I thought my coworker had confided to me that a close friend had died too soon, but it turns out she'd just ruined an expensive pan. We talked for 10 minutes and she cried. FML
Today, I ran into an old friend, and she asked me how I was doing. I replied, "Still alive!" like I always do. I forgot both of her parents recently passed away. FML
Today, a man I once worked with passed away. He was a lovely, caring, and inspirational person whom I looked up to. My husband's form of consolation? "Old people die. Get over it." FML
Like the deserts miss the rain
Today, my wife of 18 years and I went to a party. We arrived and left separately, and didn't even talk to one another while there. I miss her. FML
Today, my sister asked me how my boyfriend was doing. He died two years ago. She was the first person I told. FML

Definitely a FML. Assuming "my husband left me" means a separation/divorce is pretty reasonable, it's what most people say in that situation. I've never heard anyone using that phrasing to describe the death of their partner. If somebody told me that their partner had left them, I'd automatically make the same assumption - as I think 95% of people would.

Who the hell refers to a spouse's death as them "having left him/her"? She brought it on herself for saying it like that.

I'm going to have to back up about half of the replies by saying that she is a moron for using a cute little euphemism instead of conveying the magnitude of the tragedy properly. Though, in defense of the idiot friend, I can understand that she would go to a party to cheer herself up. I've done that once or twice and it worked just fine.

So the woman is a idiot for something as trifle as this? Why is this site so judgmental?

Always start with "I feel bad for you" and maybe "You'll be fine" works for most female problems at the beginning. then listen to details.

no offense to her but you don't say "he left me", you say "he died"

Well your friend created this unfortunate situation by not being straight up the first time. Sucks but its not your fault.

Partly her fault. She didn't say he died. Just said he left.
