Today, years after I stepped on a nail and had the wound stitched, I got an X-ray. I've had serious trouble walking, and it turns out I had 2.5 inches of nail living in the sole of my foot, stabbing up into my ankle joint. I now need major surgery. FML

Go back and figure out who’s stitched you up the first time what hospital and Dr. get a lawyer and sue them sounds like they didn’t follow procedure on the first go around. You probably have a pretty legitimate claim for a malpractice lawsuit.

Just listen to some Nine Inch Nails and you’ll realize that two-and-a-half is not too bad.

I'm sure you'll bail the surgery and get back on your feet in no time.

truth be told, that's really awful and im sorry you've had so much difficulty with it. luckily you found out now and even though having major surgery is awful, at least they can still help you hopefully get back on your feet for real.

Did they just cut the nail off before stitching it in? How did no one notice that said nail was obviously literally in the foot? I mean, 2 1/2 inches is a lot. Did this happen in the United States?
