Today, I googled for an hour how to open my CD player on my laptop. Turns out, there is none. They just put a space there to make it look like a CD player. FML

Buyer beware. Know what you are getting, maybe read a little.

Might because nowadays CD is seldom used, the producer remove it to lower cost, still, they have to keep the space for those who are sure they need this module. I think they would have declared in the user manual, or that will be cheating

It could also be the op asked for a second HDD. Most laptops will use the CD/DVD slot for a HDD rack.

Wow, that's messed up. You can get a portable one that connects via a cord in your USB port.

silly laptop. cds are for kids...i miss cd drives

If they actually made it look like it has a CD player, you got scammed. Far more likely is however that it isn't meant to look like a CD player, it's just a protective thing you could remove to put in a player yourself, and the OP just assumed it was a player there and didn't actually read the specifications before purchase.

why did you not take this into account when you bought the computer

My Computer> Select drive> Right click> Open. If you cant find an external open button this works on every computer ive ever used. If it doesnt show up in My computer it doesnt have one.

Fear not! You can always get an external CD drive.
