Well, he's gonna eat it if you don't give him a choice in the matter. Just leave a bowl of the food out and refuse to give him anything else until he finishes it. No dog is going to starve himself to death if there's food available.

Maybe try to make him some vegi dog food yourself?

Dogs aren't carnivores, they're omnivores and can survive, sometimes do better, on no meat diets. They can even survive on vegan diets, just like humans. The thing with dogs too, is they might descend from wolves and other wild dogs, but with years of inbreeding among dogs, it has messed up many things for them, including their digestive system. So some are going to have problems like this. Dogs are also animals, just like us, not all of them are the same and some are going to have intolerances that are a little abnormal.

Do you like eating chips or dry food all the time? When, or if, you cool dinner, make him some too. They have nice dog recipes on line and it's very inexpensive!

$90 a bag? A whole new dog is only $25 at the shelter

Yes, because a beloved pet is completely replaceable and not at all individual.

mm you coyld try meat that someone hunted. i know a child wgo can obly eat wild game meat.

This is quite the conundrum. A carnivore allergic to all forms of meat? I can almost picture him looking at the bowl of vegetarian food, and be like..."I ain't no ******' vegetarian!" Good luck with this OP.

I'm not going to get into the carnivore/omnivore debate because that's just not necessary here, but I feed my dogs a raw diet and, through experience and having many raw feeding friends, have learned that many dogs who are allergic to a cooked form of a protein can eat the same protein raw without issue. If researching how to provide a well balanced raw diet (not a difficult thing to do, really), you may be able to feed your dog much more affordably and with a meat heavy diet like he really needs. I have been fortunate enough to have a raw feeding vet so I can be extra sure my dogs are receiving everything they need in their diets, but it's much simpler than people think. My advice is to find a raw feeding vet and get a second opinion if this is something you're interested in. Of course, I don't know if that is something you have tried or not, but I thought it might be worth suggesting. Dogs aren't actually meant to eat kibble and kibble really hasn't been around that long so a raw diet isn't as nuts as so many people think it is. I hope you find an affordable option that your dog enjoys whether it's raw, cooked, kibble, etc. I'm sorry you and your dog have hit this roadblock. He's already luckier than so many other dogs because he has an owner who put in the effort and money to figure out what was wrong with him AND buy him the special kibble. SO many people would have dumped him without even figuring out what was wrong with him.

Try mixing half of what you'd normally give him with one can of unsalted green beans. My sisters dog does this and he loves it, plus it's actually really good for them! Helps keep them trim and not over weight.

green beans are a great filler for dogs that seem to always want to eat, even when having enough.

You can look up vegetarian recepies to cook for your dog if all else fails. But as others have suggested, if you leave the new food out long enough he/she will eat it eventually. If you don't feel comfortable with your dog not eating until they get hungry enough, try feeding them raw fruits and veggies that are safe for dogs. My pit and shih tzu LOVE raw potatoes, cantelope, and watermelon
