Today, I found out my 12 year old daughter is going through a bit of an "emotional" stage. I got a call from her school saying she was sitting in the corner at recess trying to cut her wrist. With a plastic spoon. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I walked into the kitchen to find my daughter trying to cut her wrist with a plastic spoon. When I asked her why, she said her friend Lucy did that so her parents would buy her pretty things. My daughter and Lucy are both four years old. FML
Home improvement
Today, I found my 6 year-old daughter upstairs, lying on the floor with scissors. She was giving, "the carpet a haircut." FML
Blame bad TV plots
Today, I learned that my 11 year-old daughter wrote a love letter to her teacher. Cute, right? It was an incredibly graphic letter where she asked him to "abduct her and chain her up in his basement." I now must find her a new school and a therapist. FML
Today, I found my daughter sobbing and trying to stick a wad of gauze to her vagina. She was having her first period. FML
Today, I got a call from my daughter's school saying that she had beat someone up. She's 4. FML
Today, my eldest daughter told me about the sharp pains she's been having for the past couple of days. She also told me how she thinks it's really pointy carrots trying to escape her body. She's 11, and going to middle school. FML
Whack-a-Mole
Today, I had to pick my daughter up from pre-school because she repeatedly hit another kid with a stick. Apparently, my parents have been letting her watch violent action movies again. FML
Kids are assholes to each other
Today, I have discovered that my daughter is struggling with anorexia. When I sat down to talk with her about it, she said it’s because, "all the other kids at school keep calling her fat." She was underweight before, and has now gone to being severely underweight. FML
Love and hate
Today, I got a call from my daughter’s school. They found her on the roof, threatening to kill herself. I had to pretend to sound scared and sad over the phone, but in reality, the only emotion I could feel was extreme joy. FML
Today, my thirteen-year-old daughter tried to scratch the freckles off of her face. We ended up going to the hospital. FML

It isn't really important that she used a plastic spoon. If she wants to cut her wrist (and/or even commit suicide) she has a big issue. Please, take it seriously. Even kids can get in a depression, search help to get her back out again.

That...that is silly. However, you still should get that checked out. When I was 8, I threatened to kill myself with a butter knife (thought the butcher knives would hurt too much) and as ridiculous as it was, it was just before my onset of serious depression that I still struggle with.

Get her some help; it is not necessarily an attention thing, some serious issues might be at hand. I completely understand how she feels, these things can go on for years. Start early and let her get some control.

I would get her some counseling. It sounds like a cry for help and she needs support.

Ah that emo stage, good times!

Please, please get your daughter some help. This may be nothing, or it may be a very serious warning sign. Get her in to talk to a counsellor ASAP - the worst that can come of that is being told there's nothing wrong.

OP PLEASE pay attention to this!! Whether she's seriously having a hard time or she's looking for attention, it could end badly if nobody helps her! She could do something to herself because she feels that she's not getting the amount of attention she needs! PLEASE help her! No matter her reasoning for doing this, your child needs help!!!

Uh.. I would be concerned.. It could continue and she could end up actually cutting herself with a knife or scissors or something. It's not really something to joke about.. Dangerous and unhealthy. Try talking to her?

That's so sad! This is a cry for help. I hope you can help her find her happiness. That is such a young age.

It's not FYL, it's F hers. Depression is a serious issue. Don't disregard this as nothing.

This is not a "stage" kids go through. I hate when parents or even doctors call real psychological issues a stage. Especially at that age kids don't know the boundaries of life and death. It's all fun and games until oops you went too far. Your child needs someone to talk to, whether it's you, a close family friend, or a good psychologist/psychiatrist.

I doubt OP's child thinks this is 'fun and games'.
