Today, I automated a task at work and a day-long procedure ran in a few hours. My boss was completely unimpressed because "I'm not paid to automate stuff, I'm paid to work". FML

Perhaps you should go talk to his boss and take your boss's job.

Sounds like he brown-nosed his way to his position, because he clearly didn't get it by being qualified.

On the bright side, he has probably saved someone's job.

Look for a job where you are being paid to automate stuff...

I feel for you. I did this once and got a promotion for it.

Destroy/hide your automation at work. Patent it and market it to similar businesses, make a fortune and buy the old company and fire your boss

this could fall under corporate espionage if I am not mistaken. the company most likely now owns the idea based on op's contract. and to destroy or tamper it could be a major lawsuit or worse. I would however let it break, and start going to as high up as you can with numbers, ideas etc. if you go to them with results you may still get rewarded for the work and if you LET it break on it's own and only you can fix it... to bad for them.

Your boss is an idiot. Go over his head and show them how you are increasing productivity
