The power of the cardboard box

By Never ever again - 23/06/2022 04:00 - Canada - Toronto

Today, I’m kicking myself for buying and setting up an elaborate cat tree I thought my cats would love. The second I was done, they walked over to it, sniffed around, and went to sleep in the box it came in instead, and won’t go near the darn thing. It might as well be a $200 cardboard box. FML

Sprinkle some cracknip on it and give them time. Trust me.

give them a couple days to adjust, and make sure the box is thrown out while they adjust to it so they won't play only with the box

Catnip and time. And maybe throwing out the box.

Sell the cat tree on Craigslist, but keep the box. That way, the box will only have a net cost of $175-180 depending on your haggling skills.

In case your cats don’t respond to nip, try giving them treats on it. They will associate the cat tree with treats and they will like it.

Use the tree yourself. The cats will get annoyed at you having something new and will decide to claim it as their own and then defend it against your use.

That’s a lot of pets, don’t feel bad haha. I bought a fancy new snuggle bed for my hedgehog that cost a lot, and she sniffed it and upon putting her in it, she kept coming right back out. Didn’t want anything to do with it, and now I have to go return it.

rub a blanket on them and then rub it into the tree fabric
