Today, after 10 years in practice as a veterinarian, I began an internship in hopes of becoming a surgeon. The other intern/roommate never came, so we worked extra but don’t make enough to pay rent and buy groceries. We talked to HR about it and they give us a list of food banks. We work for a university. FML

So they are still charging you the rent of 3 people despite only having two? That's messed up. Have you looked into renting somewhere that isn't a con job? Have you checked your contract to see if you have to cover the third person? It's shameful that they are sending their own employees to food banks instead of...oh I don't know...paying a living wage, or filling the third space for rent, or having any form of human emotion or sympathy.
