Please don't do this

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2010 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I took my girlfriend of five and a half years to family dinner at a restaurant. After we all had finished dessert, I got down on one knee, pulled out my great grandmother's ring and proposed. The entire restaurant was dead silent. She looked around and then slowly walked out. FML

Wow I'm so sorry. Have you gotten an explanation? You'd think after 5 1/2 years she'd shout YES.

Umm...maybe because she didn't want to get married to the guy? Isn't that usually the reason one turns down a marriage proposal?

or she couldnt cope with the pressure of answering in a restaurant full of people? it happens.

once you get over it, you're way better off

ouch :[ would hate to be you during that situation.

Talk! This oozes conversations that have not yet been held. She should at least have a decent reason for turning you down like this (burn baby burn) after such a long time being together.

Today, My idiot boyfriend of five years took me to a Wal Mart to buy condoms. He then went to McDonalds with his family and myself. Suddenly he got on one knee, I thought he dropped a french fry or something, he took out a ring and proposed to me in a McDonalds. Now he is telling the whole world his sob story on a popular site. FML.

I'm sorry you got humiliated, but I tend to think that guys who do public proposals are kinda asking for this sort of thing. Unless you know, KNOW, 100% that she is going to say yes, then you have to realise that "No" might be an option.
