Ouroboros

Today, I realized am THAT parent: I put a lot of pressure on my 8 year-old (!) daughter, because I hope she succeeds professionally and will have the self-confidence I lack. Why do I rather stay at home and lack self-confidence? Because my own mother put me under so much pressure and drowned me in her expectations. FML

The first step is realizing what kind of parent you are. The second step is understanding what kind of parent you want to be. The third step is to walk the path between them. The first is harder than most people think, the second requires you to know yourself well and the third is you life long mission.

now that you've realized, it's not too late to fix it. she's only 8, let her be a kid

Get therapy so you can put an end to the cycle of generational trauma. Do it for your daughter and for yourself.

So? Break the cycle. You're aware enough to realize what you're doing. YOU have the power to stop it.

Step one is admitting you have a problem. Step two is probably sitting your kid down and having an honest conversation. Step three is cancelling one or two activities. I suggest starting with dance, assuming dance is involved.
