Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my adult daughter was hospitalized for severe fever, diarrhea, and fainting. The doctor couldn't find any cause other than sleep deprivation, because I started making her wake up at 7 am. I’ve never met anyone so ridiculously weak in my entire life. FML
Today, I finally finished a gruelling shift at the hospital. I hadn't slept in over 30 hours, so I was happy to get out. I was quickly rushed back in after I collapsed in the parking lot and cracked my head open. FML
Today, I went to my dad's workplace because my sister was there and I wanted to see my newborn niece. I was overjoyed until my dad came up to me. It had apparently been pretty hectic for the past week, because he was on the verge of another stress-induced heart attack. Yes, another. We had to help him outside. FML
Today, my wife and I both got released from the hospital. She was admitted for the birth of our daughter. I was admitted with a broken arm from when my mother-in-law shoved me out of the way because she wanted to be the first one to hold the baby after my wife. FML
Today, after seven years, I finally found out why my sister was mad at me: Because I had to get admitted to give birth on the day she had planned her baby shower, which she didn't inform me about or invite me to. As I stole her thunder by giving birth, being full term 44 weeks and way past my due date. FML
Today, my sister refused to come to the hospital with the rest of my family to visit my new baby. Apparently, I’m an "attention hogging slutbag" because I "chose to go into labor" on her birthday. FML
Today, I'm recovering from an emergency room visit. I was vomiting, sweating, shaking, crying, and couldn't even speak properly. I was scared of that, and scared of hospitals after a routine surgery nearly killed me two years ago. Most of my family are convinced I was faking all of it. FML
Today, I was supposed to be enjoying a long-anticipated, desperately needed, weekend away. Turns out those "little stomach twinges" were actually symptoms of appendicitis. I'm stuck in the hospital, alone, recovering from surgery, while my family is enjoying our non-refundable break. FML
Today, I went to the hospital due to extreme sickness. My boyfriend saw this as an opportune time to take another girl out since I was "otherwise preoccupied." FML
Today, I've been in my old hometown visiting because my sister is having her baby. I scheduled the trip a full week after her due date, and still no baby. We tried everything to start her labor. I had to go back home, and as soon as my plane landed, I got a text saying she just gave birth. FML

I work at a hospital and had to cover a sick nurse's shift last week. I worked 14 hours straight without a break, on top of having been up 10 hours prior to that. Either you got totally duped into letting them admit you, or you're an abnormally weak individual...

You experienced "severe exhaustion" by staying at the hospital for 12 hours? While in the hardest school in the United States and possibly the world, I spent 84 hours studying in a class room because all the information is classified and can not be removed from the room. 12 hours? How can you work? What kind of life do you have that you can't spend 12 hours out without becoming severely exhausted?

Now i'm curious, what school did you go to?

it's not like you were doing anything. if she was in labor for 12 hours, you would have had plenty of time to get food or take a nap before the baby came. I was in labor for 23 hours. fortunately my husband had the good sense to take advantage of the pull out bed in the room and munch on fries the whole time.

I do hope you made a typo and were really hospitalized for "severe dehydration". I could see that happening in 12 hours if all of your attention was focused on your sister. If you are really just exhausted, then go the **** HOME and go to sleep.

I'm confused. How is this an fml? Are you that jealous? I'd go visit someone who just gave birth over someone suffering from "severe exhaustion"

12 hours? Cowboy up and get over it. I regularly work 12-16 hour days and don't even get me started in work schedules during deployments. 12 hours is nothing so stop complaining

Twelve hours? I've worked shifts almost as long as that, lifting and stocking in a warehouse. You know what I did? Went home and took a nap!
