Today, the gums around my wisdom teeth are so badly swollen that I can't talk. I called a dentist to find out if I could see them for a removal. They told me to contact a surgeon, or go to the hospital emergency room. I have no insurance. FML

You were going to go to a dentist without insurance so why can't you go someplace else without insurance?

because a surgeon is a lot more expensive than a dentist?

Dentist is right though, at least in the US, you need to go to an oral surgeon to get them out. No use in a wasted visit to a dentist if you can go direct to the oral surgeon.

Yeah dentists can't do wisdom tooth extraction, that requires an oral surgeon

Ask for financial assistance, go to a university dental office? There are always some form of assistance, it’s just not really advertised

dentists can absolutely do extraction of wisdom teeth, though not all of them may be comfortable doing so. I've had three of mine taken out by my dentist, and it went fine. try to find one that you can afford and who is okay doing the procedure, or find some insurance. good luck.
