Today, my parents and in-laws are in a bidding war for the house next door, since we are about to have a son. We're not even sure if we want them living this close. FML

Get a dog and train him/her to build a shit barrier in their yard to keep them away from your house.

I would normally say that having parents or in laws close would be good for helping with the baby...but not that close to you.

You definitely do NOT want them that close! I have lived near, far and to next door my in laws/my parents and I can tell you, you definitely want to be far enough away and off their regular path of travel that they don't know with out asking if you are home or out. Close is nice. To close causes problems.

Think about it this way...maybe if they live that close, they won't actually be over at YOUR house for long visits....you can just send your son over there for extended visits, which is what they really want anyway.

You and your husband/wife will deeply regret them living on top of you almost immediately, the best part is how they'll think they can come & go however they please and forget them actually even knocking.
