Today, I realized my parents are pretty much single-handedly responsible for all of the mental illnesses and personality disorders I have now. FML

And who do you think is responsible for your parents turning out like they did in raising you? Would you say their parents? The chain of misery either continues or someone has to break it…. I get it, some of us lucked out with the parents they had and some didn’t. There is little you can do to change who your parents are. You can however (with difficulty) change how you respond. I am very sorry that things are the way they are. But I think the best advice is to concentrate on a plan that will ultimately let you live your own life and then stay away from your parents as much as you can. That means preparing for a job or career that will let you live on your own. In the meanwhile focus on what you have to do now and be a friend to others so you will have a friend to be there to support and encourage you.

No, our society also has a hand it that.

Join the club.

Yeah, sounds about right. Usually it’s parents or a partner who cause that shit. In many cases, it’s both.
