Check before you wreck

Today, I was moving into my new house. While trying to turn on the light in the bedroom, I realized I couldn't reach the string on the fan. I got a chair, climbed up, reached over, and fell badly. While writhing in agony on the floor, I looked over to see a light switch on the wall. FML

Is it just me, or would anyone else just put the chair DIRECTLY under the string, instead of somewhere off to the side where you have to reach over to grab it? Common sense, anyone?

It doesn't say OP is short, just that she couldn't reach. It could be a high ceiling. Plus, platform shoes wouldn't help if the chair wasn't even tall enough.

Uhm... what house doesn't have a light switch? That should've been like the first thing to look for. YDI.

stupid asci art wont work :( I will figure it out... i will i will

Some people are so ignorant. Who walks into a room and doesn't look for a light switch? It's not like a light switch is a luxury or something, they're quite common. Another thing, you weren't so badly injured that you couldn't come on here and let the world know what an idiot you are, so you're clearly fine.

completely. If there's a ceiling fan with a light, the string is always for the fan, and there will be a switch for the light. And also: what kind of short-ass chair were you using? How can you stand on a chair and still not be able to reach the string from the fan?

"Writhing in agony"? You fell off of a chair, you'll live.

the light switch won't work if u haven't pulled the string yet
