Today, the iPhone app I downloaded that plays cricket noises during the night, has attracted a horde of actual crickets into my bedroom. FML

Believe it or not, but most people don't respond that way to the sound of flowing water. I use sleep machine (paid version) by the way and I love it. I usually switch between sets of sounds, but I'll usually combine room heater and furnace, dehumidifier and air conditioner, shower and dryer and bathroom fan, or car and plane cabin. Apps like this really help me with my sleep issues. Yes, there's a cricket option.

I can't imagine how horrible that must be...one chirping outside the window at night is enough to drive me crazy, doesn't help me fall asleep, actually causes me to make noise to scare them into silence :< FYL OP, FYL indeed!
