Burning

By Tingly - 16/08/2010 03:12 - United States

Today, I realized that the tingly feeling on my face when I put a new combination of acne wash, acne medication, and my usual moisturizer on was not, in fact, "it working." It was slowly peeling away the top layer of skin. I look and feel sunburned. I also still have acne and oily skin. FML

I've been there, OP. So many acne treatments have done more harm than good! Believe me, I know how much it sucks.

Do it yourself dermabrasion? What's next, do it yourself breast augmentation?

What sort of medication was it? I know of some that makes your skin peel and make you look sunburned. Pretty hardcore meds. Apparently it's pretty effective.

dude always read the warning labels! it specifically says on all acne products to not mix or use one right after the other.

I don't understand why "it working" is in quotations.... is there something I'm missing or is this just poorly written?

Maybe it says something like, "You can feel it working!" on the bottle, so the OP was quoting the bottle? OK, I'm reaching. OP, you should NEVER use so many products on your skin at the same time, especially if one or more of the products is unfamiliar to you. Sorry, but YDI!

Omg! I use this acne face wash and it burnt away the top layer of my skin all around my nose and it's peeling. D: The guy that likes me still says I'm pretty though. :)

Actually OP, what you're going through is pretty normal. If you feel your face is tingly and peeling, it's a clear indication that it's "working". The medication is supposed to make you peel, so new and better skin grows. If you have read the indications properly, tightness and redness in the skin is normal. But to ease the discomfort, try to avoid the strong glare of the light, especially the sun. There isn't any miracle to make your acne go away immediately. It's not magic. It'll take a looooong time, but follow the instructions correctly and you'll see improvements. In the mean time, try to keep your oil production low by avoiding oily food? Also use those oil papers to wipe your face. By the way, if you were wondering how I know this, it's because I used to take acne medication too. Cream AND pills. So yeah. Stop being so self conscious, it's really not the end of the world.

I sort of agree with your post... Not always does a tingling feeling mean that the product is working. Sometimes it's an allergic reaction. The medication IS technically supposed to make you peel, but not to that degree, which makes me wonder how much OP is actually using. They're using it too often if they're peeling, or they're using too many products and need something moisturizing, too. Believe it or not, even the oily-skinned need moisturizers! If you use too many drying products, your already oily skin will over produce the oils and become even oilier, creating more acne than you had before. I'm sure the product did have instructions on the label telling them of the active medicinal ingredient, so it is OP's fault for not reading any of the instructions. If you're using the right product, it shouldn't take any more than 6 weeks for acne to clear up. Blackheads are another story, at least for me. I'm still trying to find the right product. Pills are a good option for OP, and since you've used them, you would know that when taken correctly they work well. I've taken them too, though nothing all that strong.

Better solution: remove skin. Problem solved. Hey, OP got it right! No more skin = no more zits!

Rinse your face in cool water, and don't use all the same products at once. Like, wash your face in the morning, midday moisturize, then at night use the medication. It should give your skin time to acclimate.
