Today, a large figure busted my front door window. Fearing a burglar, I shot at them with my sidearm. Opening the door, I saw the mailman, in his new brown shorts, and my large custom bedding he'd plopped against my door. With 5 new holes. FML

Everyone’s saying that OP was at fault, and while I agree they should have looked before firing, their front door window was broken, which typically only an intruder would do. Yes they overreacted, but they, within reason, thought their house was being broken into.

He did not know what had broken the window or what had caused the break, He overreacted using potentially deadly force without evaluating the incident or being aware of what the circumstances were,
