Today, I found out my 12 year old daughter is going through a bit of an "emotional" stage. I got a call from her school saying she was sitting in the corner at recess trying to cut her wrist. With a plastic spoon. FML

It isn't really important that she used a plastic spoon. If she wants to cut her wrist (and/or even commit suicide) she has a big issue. Please, take it seriously. Even kids can get in a depression, search help to get her back out again.

That...that is silly. However, you still should get that checked out. When I was 8, I threatened to kill myself with a butter knife (thought the butcher knives would hurt too much) and as ridiculous as it was, it was just before my onset of serious depression that I still struggle with.

Show it anyway

She probably cut her mouth trying to eat soup with a plastic knife.

Mine didn't. I'm still fighting what i thought was a phase after 10 years. It's not easy for everyone to just go through it. Please take a good care of her.

That is not funny, a 12 year old girl is still just a child. You have to wonder where she picked that up at..

What!? She was cutting her wrist with a plastic spoon not a knife

But she'll probably move on to knives eventually. And if she's using a spoon, then she must really be desperate.

I thought it was a phase for me, too. Even tho I haven't self harmed in about four years, I still think about it on a daily basis. The fight never ends and it's rough. I just hope that OP's little girl can get through this with love and support.

I agree with 24 and 90. Its been about 4 years for me. It's hard. Please take extreme care with her.

Key word, "trying". She can only try to cut her wrists with a plastic spoon... She will never succeed.

oh right cause you cant sharpen plastic.. it doesnt matter what the object is, its the person's view of whats wrong.

#43, if the edge plastic is uneven enough, it is possible. And I, sadly, say this firsthand.

Well, you never know. They usually serve sporks at school lunches, and those can be pretty pointy.

Down the road, not across the street.

That mean she up set or she is getting bullied I'm 11 turning 12 on mech 30 would know

You should not be on this site if you are only 11.

Sounds like she either needs help, or she is just a major attention *****.

I highly doubt that a 12 year old would do that for attention.

The way kids are now a days I would be surprised

You say that but I can recall things like that happening in middle school all the time. The kids that really need help hid it and the ones that wanted attention sat in public using items that couldn't hurt them.

You people are dumb. You have kids these days in elementary that do this stuff I have 4 cousins in elementary I know. And brothers in middle. Sorry for calling you guys dumb.

Was she totally serious? When I was 12, I'm pretty sure I knew a plastic spoon wasn't sharp enough. At least that's a good thing for her, or she would be seriously hurt!

Trust me, they ARE sharp enough. Had a seventh grader use one during lunch to cut her thigh.

Yeah, let's play the blame game. Let's blame the parents even though we have no information on why the kids do it. Let the kids do whatever, the parents will take the fall./sarcasm

^^ Ok calm down! I'm just saying i think the parents might have something to do with it! Put your beans on simmer.

I wouldn't worry too much, it just sounds like she's just trying to fit in. I'd talk to her about it though.

Euhm, where do you live if twelve-year-olds cut their wrists to fit in? I'd like to avoid that place.

Post falls, Idaho. Deer park, Washington. Should I go on?

Little towns of nothing are not wrist cutting places.... Often they are actually the friendliest people

You need to talk to her, next step is actually drawing blood.

That...that is silly. However, you still should get that checked out. When I was 8, I threatened to kill myself with a butter knife (thought the butcher knives would hurt too much) and as ridiculous as it was, it was just before my onset of serious depression that I still struggle with.

A butter knife would definitely hurt more.

This is what happens when people just post a reply without 1) reading the FML and 2) using their brain.

That is quite harsh comment. My sister went though this and she still has scars on her wrists where she actually managed to cut herself!
