Autumn: Leaves and Laughter
When the leaves fall, the laughter rises. Discover autumn stories as crisp as dried leaves!
Today, a telemarketer called my house phone and asked for my grandpa. We were in the middle of having his wake. FML
Today, I checked my inbox and realized I got an email from a potential employer, saying they were having trouble getting a hold of me by phone. They called while my mom was using my phone to look up directions to a place, and she answered, kindly hanging up when they asked for me. FML
Today, after applying at over 30 businesses over the past 6 months, I have had not one single call. I later find out that I was using my old phone number on the applications, and my secondary phone was my mom's. She thought they were telemarketers. FML
Today, I was so desperately lonely that I begged a telemarketer not to hang up on me. FML
Today, after months of job hunting, I finally got a phone call. They were impressed with me. That's when my son decided to throw a tantrum asking for food. After some silence, the caller told me they were looking for someone who wasn't juggling little kids at home and hung up. My son is 20. FML
Today, I got a call from "No Caller ID", which usually only shows up when someone calls from my house phone. Thinking it was my kids, I answered imitating a cartoon voice. It wasn't my kids. It was the district attorney's office calling about the job I applied for. FML
Today, my phone rang with an unknown number. I answered in my professional “customer service” voice: “Hello, this is Sarah, how may I help you?” It was my mom, who immediately said, “Why are you talking like a robot? Did you get fired again?” I was on speakerphone at the grocery store checkout. FML
Today, I cleared out the messages in my voicemail. Of the 50+ messages, most were from my mother wanting to know when I'd be home. I'm 27. FML
Today, I got a call from my parents' divorce lawyer. When I answered the phone, she thought I was my mother and told me the details about my parent's divorce. I'm a 13-year-old boy who sounds like a woman and just learned that my parents are separating. FML
Today, out of nowhere, several spam calls started calling my cellphone number. Every single one of them about health insurance. I didn't know why they were calling me or how they got my number. After a bit of questioning, it turns out my dumb dad used my name and cellphone number while trying to look for info. FML

I get this aalll the time. It's no big deal, just let them know they've made a mistake. I like to advise them that my mummy and daddy have divorced and don't live with me, and ask if they'd like to speak to my husband. I get apologies every time.

Explain that it's no disgrace to move back home with your parents in this difficult economy. Then, give the phone to your mommy or daddy.

Look on the bright side OP. At least you Want age very fast!!

It's spelt won't. "at least you won't age." Want is if you want something. Sorry, had to correct it, especially since a and o are on opposite sides of the keyboard.

Wow 34, you have truly enlightened me. I had no idea what "want" meant before now.
courtneyann211 10
Honestly, I'm just sick of seeing people use "want" when they mean "won't." They mean 2 different things.

Why are you people all telling him to say ANYTHING to these bottom feeders? Just yell "Take me off your call list!" in your highest, squeakiest voice, and then hang the hell up.

Everybody's got to have a job Doc. Not all of us get the joys of your job. ;)

I tell them that I'm busy now and ask them for their home number so that I can call them when I get some time to spare to discuss the advantages of a pap smear (every 3 yrs now) :)...

Good way to get rid of those pesky telemarketing calls. Pretend to be a child!

Another good one is to tell them you are unemployed. Then start telling them about your medical issues, especially if they involve the lower GI tract.

That's when you mess with them and tell them you haven't seen your mommy or daddy and days and you're hungry and scared

This happened to me when I was just after turning 20. I have a regular enough sounding voice, except when I am on the phone. I got a call from the bank and the asked for my parents too. I sound like a five year old on the phone, once even my own mother mistook me for me kid niece!

Oh, no, you missed out on a chance to talk to a telemarketer? That's so sad! Usually my conversations with them are enlightening and spiritually uplifting. They always offer me products carefully selected for me that invariably make my life fulfilling and transcendent!
