Today, since it's company policy, I had to go to the back of my small store to retrieve an item for a customer, even though I was working by myself. I came back to find that since she couldn't get into the cash register, she found and stole my purse instead. FML

Hopefully the small store you work at has video surveillance so you can report it to the police. I hope you're able to get your things back.

Try to see if your company will replace the lost goods! I hope nothing too valuable was lost OP.

sometimes common sense should trump "store policy". Was there a way around this? maybe invite the customer behind the desk if your OSHA laws allow

I bet that didn't register very well with your boss...

Let's hope you're reimbursed for your loss. Hope you get everything back! (-:

should get yourself a little safe box or something to keep your purse and things in.

I hope there are cameras in the store ...

Why would you leave your personal items in open view and unattended? YDI

it said the customer found it. I'm assuming it was somewhat hidden.

Apparently not hidden enough. Don't want things stolen, don't leave things left unattended

Did you bother to read the FML? She had to leave it unattended to get something from the back of the store since it was company policy. Nice victim blaming

#27 you annoy me with how pc you are being, it's true however why wasn't the bag around the back? It is their fault it happened but it's really sad it did and I just said that then so you can't say I don't empathise.

Like I said below, there is a possibility she had no where else to put her purse. When I worked retail I could only put my purse behind the counter. Do you really think she would leave her purse behind the counter if she had any other place to put it?
