Today, my window fell out of the wall, landed on my head, and shattered. I waited 6 hours to get 23 stitches in the emergency room. When I got home, I found a bill. I owe my landlord $130 to replace the window. They won't fix it until I pay up. FML

So I'm not lying. The window repairman came today (after I paid $130) and said that some spring or something in the window frame was worn out. Boston had some very strong winds the day the window fell out, which pushed it out of the frame. I was on the floor doing a puzzle of Fenway Park if you needed to know.

there is no way he can legally make you pay for that if it turns out that the accident was a result of his negligence. if he knew about the problem before and didn't fix it then you can easily sue him for the damages to your person. either way, the landlord cannot make you pay for the window unless you did something that caused the window to fall out in the first place. he is just trying to intimidate you. don't fall for his bullshit. i'm a law student. i know this stuff to be a fact.

you should demand the medical bill from your landlord instead. for renting a place with a dangerous window.

The landlord is responsible for the repair of the property. He/she cannot withhold repairs even if they do want you to pay for it. That is generally why you are charged a damage deposit. you need to check with your local government office about the renters' association. They should be able to help you.

That's major league BULLSHIT!

See if this happened in Europe you wouldn't have to wait for so long in the emergency room. And the money you use on health insurance could have been used on a home insurance making sure you wouldn't have to pay for things like that window out of your own pocket. Owned America!

dude u definitely don't have to pay for that!!! explain what happened and tell him that it's his responsibility to pay for it.. if he still insists you pay for it tell him ur calling a lawyer!! that's bs

yeah sue him a landlord is legally obligated to provide a livable residence for his tennants. if a window just fell out of it's frame for no reason and sent you to the hospital it's his fault and he should not only fix the window but pay your medical bill too. don't take that shit

omg I hope you're ok. my window has fallen out

Should have gone to a plastic surgeon, not the ER. You wouldn't have been waiting 6 hours AND they would've done a better job. When will people learn?

tell him to pay the hospital bill, and youll pay for the window

You do know that as a renter and the law says that he has to fix and pay for any fixes and as your right u dont have to thats one plus to renting is they have to take care of all fixes and he has to pay the medical bill thats
