Today, in a state of extreme boredom, I decided to dress my 6-month-old son in girl's clothes. As he sat in my lap in a frilly dress, and as I was placing a very pink and lacy bow on his head, my mother-in-law unexpectedly walked in. She now thinks I'm mentally unstable and should be in therapy. FML

OP here. For those that question why I had girl baby clothes it is because I have clothes from when I was a baby. They are too big for him but I was bored. And for those that think that babies are entertaining 24/7 then you are obviously not a parent. I am home alone with my child for 7 hours a day and I don't really know very many people or go too many places. My mother-in-law doesn't believe in knocking so she has a habit of just walking in. Also, I intended for this to be a one time silly event between just my child and I perhaps with me telling my husband later. I had no intentions of taking pictures to share on FB or any other social media site. (In fact, my child isn't pictured anywhere online.) Also, if my son "turns out gay" I won't really care because a few of my family members are homosexual. Lastly, I could've let my baby play with his toys but he vastly prefers me entertaining him over his toys.

Explain to her how that stuff is all socially constructed anyway. Pink used to be considered a boy's color!

How are you bored with your own 6 month old baby?

i just wanna add to the whole concept here yea ITS A BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS NOT SOME GROWN ADULT WHO GOT TRAPPED IN A HOUSE BY A COOCK TO WEAR GIRLS CLOTHES ITS A BABY!!!! a little baby boy that can not even talk yet or walk yet so who cares like really if the mother was bored and wanted to dress her BABY boy in girly stuff who gives a darn if she didnt take any pictures or anything then whats so bad? now if she took pictures then we could have issues of blackmail and bulling when the kid dis older but there was no evidence of the crime so yea whats the point? i heard of alot of baby boys who got dressed in girly stuff for like special photos and it wasnt even that bad (even sort of cute (^_^) but yea its like whats the point? nothing bad can come out of it the clothing does not cause the freaking baby to grow a third darn eye!! so for people who are freaking out about all dat stuff then take a moment and stop FREAKING THE FIRE TRUCK OUT! thank you (''')^_^(''') epic skittle queen OUT!

I'm completely amazed by the huge number of YDI's and negative comments on this thread. I honestly can't believe that so many of you guys seriously think that putting a dress on a baby boy ONE TIME makes the OP mentally unstable. It honestly makes me a little upset seeing the sheer amount of ignorance. Take it from an aspiring psychologist: There is NOTHING wrong with what the OP did. The baby isn't gonna suddenly turn gay or suffer huge emotional trauma. Also, as others pointed out, mothers can most definitely get bored around their babies and pretty much everyone "dresses up" their baby. The mother-in-law was totally out of line for accusing the OP of being mentally unstable and she needs to mind her own business.

Many times, people will buy baby dresses before the baby is born. I got one at my baby shower and had no idea if I was having a boy or girl. The person who gave it to me just shrugged and said it was too adorable to pass up. Luckily I had a girl!

Kylee, all of my babies loved being paid attention to and did not care if it was getting a bath, playing peek-a-boo, or getting different outfits on them to take pictures. They all hated their play pen when they were awake. It is easy to say op should or shouldn't do something. Being entertained by your child is never wrong unless it is abusive to the child.
