Today, I was yelled at for being an hour late with someone's medication. Due to HIPPA I couldn't tell them it was because I was busy stopping someone down the hall from bleeding to death. FML

Can't you say things like, "There was a life threatening emergency that had to take priority."? As long as you don't give enough details to identify the person, it should be fine to say stuff like that. Double check with your Charge Nurse or consult a lawyer.
