Today, I was sitting in the car with my family, when my mom started a conversation about why my friends never say hi when they see me. The conversation ended with me in tears in front of my family when my mom explained that my "friends" weren't my friends. FML

What a terrible mother she must be. I've never understood why parents feel the need to belittle their children to the point of tears. As the adult figure, you're who your child is supposed to look up to, and trust. Not be afraid of. Tell your mom she's really hurt you, and if she doesn't find it in her heart to be remorseful, she's not worth the effort to continue to look up to. I'm so sorry about all this.

Evidently she said it in a completely wrong way. Even if the mom is right, you need to go about it in a much more gentle way.

I mean there might be a reason why your mom said that. Maybe they weren't the best for you or you never continued to connect with them every now and then that's why they never said hi.

I understood it as she was crying at the realization that her friends weren't really friends.

Mother of the year material, right there.
